Star Learners @ Simei- Dec Update!

Our Year End Graduation Concert
In December, Star Learners will have its annual year end graduation party.

Unlike many of the Childcare Centres, our children, from all age groups from playgroup to the graduation class (Kindergarten Two) are involved!

The children have been practicing very hard since Early October, and have been very diligent in learning the steps.
This year, the K2s and some of the K1s did a very complicated routine, “The Thousand Hands Buddha’. It was quite a feat for the children to learn the coordination and moves. But they succeeded in putting on a brilliant performance.
All the other children did very well too. We all had such fun putting the concert together.
After the concert, a nice and yummy reception was waiting for all parents and children. It was a great time to mingle and catch up with the parents. Hooray for Star Learners @ Simei!

Trip to a play – Farmer, Fox, Bird And The Cookie

We went for a play on the 21st of December 2009. The play was called, “Farmer, Fox, Bird And The Cookie” with Tick, Tack, Tock. They were from Act 3, a well known theatrical group. Most of our Star Learners children went for this play, even those still in playgroup!
It was quite a way to the Esplanade, where the play was to be held, but the children enjoyed their time together during bus ride. When we got there, we were ushered to a stage cum loft area which was very quiet. The children, the parents and teachers were all seated on rubber mats on the floor. It was really cosy.

The play was quite animated and our children were immediately transfixed. The play was about sharing- how the farmer, fox and bird shared a cookie. The props were big and colourful and there were wonderful songs as well. The actors even got the children involved in their singing and action songs!

The children had such a great time and we were disappointed when the play was over!

Star Learners @ Pasir Ris- Dec Update!

Graduation Concert!

Our theme for this year's Graduation Concert is "Save the Earth". It's a musical production which was categorized into 5 different continuous scenes. We thought of doing a meaningful and unique concert for our children at Star Learners as we felt that the concert should not only just about going up to the stage and performing for the audience but also a valuable learning experience for the children as we take them through the whole process of preparing for the concert, and teach them about a very important issue in the world today as well!

As such, in this musical production, we made sure our kids knew what was going on during the whole concert- its schedules, the different parts they & their friends will play and the whole meaning & story behind our concert.

We started off by telling the kids the story about Saving the Earth and the different causes that destroy the earth, eg. Dirtying the park and garden, throwing bottles or cans anywhere instead of putting in recycle bins, polluting the sea, etc.

From there, we taught them to act out the various stories according to the different scenes so that they in turn can show & tell others watching the show how pollution destroys the earth.

Our Star Learners children are fast learners & we were so proud of them for performing so well at the concert!! We hope that all our parents enjoyed it and found it as meaningful as we thought it was!

Here are some pictures of the rehersals for you to enjoy!

Creative Writing & Star Learners @ Eunos Update

Children are imaginative by nature and childhood is the only phase of life where imagination is in its purest form. Therefore, creative writing is best acquired at childhood than in later phase of life.
So what would we want to teach a child creative writing? It is because creative writing is important in a child’s developing years as creative writing:

1. Helps a child to develop his/her logical thinking ability.
2. Provides an outlet for a child to express his/her thoughts and feelings freely.
3. It allows a child to play with his/her imagination.
4. It also serves as a fun yet educational activity for a child.

Therefore, in line with our November theme, the K2 children did a piece of creative writing on what they want to be when they grow up. And they did a fabulous job.

Iestin’s writing on her future dream.

Matthew’s writing on his future dream.

In addition, our N2, K1 and K2 children has started their practice for the year-end concert!

Star Learners @ Sembawang- Nov Update

Fire Drill

A fire drill was held recently at the Centre at about 8.40am. Everyone evacuated the premises in an orderly manner. Teachers did a roll call of their respective classes followed by a briefing on the importance of the drill by the Centre’s supervisor, Mrs Nancy Lim, to reinforce fire safety procedures in the event of a fire or an emergency. Parents and grandparents also participated in the fire drill.

Field Trip- Marina Barrage

Star Learners @ Sembawang took our children to the Marina Barrage – one of Singapore’s latest downtown icons. Built across the mouth of the Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage creates Singapore’s 15th reservoir, and the first in the heart of the city. With a catchment area of 10,000 hectares, or one-sixth the size of Singapore, the Marina catchment is the island’s largest and most urbanised catchment.

It was an enriching learning journey for the children as they explored the various galleries at the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, uncovering, through fun interactive and innovative multimedia, how a small country with limited resources meets the needs of a fast developing community in an environmentally-friendly manner.
